Hope you are healthy and keeping sane during the corona time! Instead of being negative, I choose to use this time productively by writing my blogs and my book while doing clinical rotations.
Thus, today I want to show you how I plan and organise to be my best version as a medical student. So, without further ado, let’s get to business.
This has been the most useful tool of all to ensure I have time for everything from my free time to studying. I usually use Google Calendar to write every single thing I need to do when I am really busy. I also use Notion a lot to time block. Right now, I am using a template on Notion I have prepared for the clinical rotations to ensure I am using my time to learn as efficiently as possible for my clinical exams.
“Even having only one goal a day and entirely focusing on it is more effective than doing little tasks that distract you.”
The Five-Minute Journal
My fiancee gave me this journal as a present, and at first, it didn’t hook me. But after having it for a long time, I can honestly say that it gives me so much clarity for the day. It is not necessarily a planning tool, but if you don’t have a lot of time, I think this can be a solution for you, as it lets you focus on gratitude and your three tasks for the day.
If you are like: ‘Only tree tasks, that is not realistic; I have so many things to do’. I hear you! But focusing on only three tasks for the day ensures that you do them in the best way possible. Even having only one goal a day and entirely focusing on it is more effective than doing little tasks that distract you.
Having one primary goal a day and two less crucial but nonetheless important ones has been the best strategy I can implement in my daily planning.
Also, with the Five-Minute Journal, you have the chance to reflect on what you could have done better and taking lessons from your mistakes each day. Many people keep making the same mistakes over and over, but if you just analyse them and see why you have those patterns, you can do something about it instead of repeating the same thing constantly.
We think we are going to remember most of our memories in the future, but it is always surprising to read something you have written in the past.
I really enjoy planning and writing and I have had a diary since I was a little kid. I switch them up from time to time but the main idea always remains the same- writing down my memories, thoughts, ideas, goals and hopes. Since a year or two, I’ve been using a bullet journal. It is not always really pretty and artsy as those bullet journals found on Pinterest, but it does the work and keeps my otherwise messy diary exciting and organised.
With a bullet journal, you have all the power to make it in a format that you enjoy and after years, when you look back and find your diary, it will be really interesting to see how you thought and what you did at that period of your life. We think we are going to remember most of our memories in the future, but it is always surprising to read something you have written in the past.
AS A CONCLUSION
These are the tools I have used for now. I enjoy trying out new things but I have already found the methods that work best for me and lean on them when the situation requires it.
Keep experimenting and don’t be afraid to try something out that hasn’t worked for you in the past. Sometimes different methods work in different periods of my life.
I hope you enjoyed this, guys! Don’t be afraid to comment and give me your opinion or feedback, I would appreciate it!
Until next time,
